Explanation of Uncharted Rating in English

Okay so my last code-filled post was a bit too confusing and boring for most people so now I'll try to explain it in english.  I'll list how I weight things and then try to explain my reasoning.

- Treasures captured are worth +1 point         (e.g. 3 scores = 3 points)

- Kills are worth +0.1 points                               (e.g. 30 kills = 3 points)

- Deaths are worth -0.05 points                        (e.g. 20 deaths = -1 point)

- Percentage of team kills*5                             (e.g. 20% of team kills (0.2)*5 = 1 point)

- Assists are worth +0.075 points                    (e.g. 10 assists = 0.75 points)

- Every man you are up is worth -1 points       (e.g. You are on a team of 5 against a team of 3 = -2 points)

- Every man you are down is worth +1 points   (e.g. You are on a team of 3 against a team of 5 = +2 points)

- Average life is divided by approx. global average of 30 sec then * 0.5    (e.g. You had an average life of 40 sec, (40/30)*0.5 = 0.67 points)

-  Medals1: fisticuffs, assistant, kick off, tricky, pull down, fly on the wall are worth 0.05 points

- Medals1 offensive:  first, tip off are worth 0.05 points
- Medals1 defensive: finish him are worth 0.05 points

- Medals2: commando, double down, big brawls, retaliation, afterlife, gunslinger, BBQ, spray and pray, head hunter are worth 0.1 points

- Medals2 offensive: defender is worth 0.1 points

- Medals2 defensive: shut him down, drop it are worth 0.1 points

- Medals3: streak, tripled, triple threat, fire in the hole are worth 0.35 points

- Medals4: fury is worth 0.75 points

- Medals4 offensive: protectorate is worth 0.75 points

- Medals4 defensive: no cigar is worth 0.75 points

- Rare medals: connect four, rage, rampant, wipeout, perfect are worth 1 point

- Negative medals: unlucky is worth -0.25 points

- Ignore That Was Embarassing and Captured as those are team medals

- Percentage of team medals*2.5                   (e.g.  25% of team medals  (0.25)*2.5 = 0.625 points)

- All of these point totals are multiplied if the match ends quickly to try and give comparable ratings for short and long matches.
      - Over 15 minutes, multiplier = 1.

So all of those point totals are added together to get your overall match rating.  I have many sub categories that are grouped portions of the stats above  (e.g. kill performance = kills points - death points + % of team kills points).  I also grouped Medals3 and above as game-changing medals (streak, fury, no cigar, etc. as they alter the match).  I tried to assign the values for the medals based on the money awarded in the game and the importance of the medals in Plunder.  So protectorate and no cigar are worth 0.75 points (or 75% of a treasure capture or 7.5 kills).

I chose the values for kills, deaths, and treasure captures to try to provide some balance.  Example: 3 scores are worth 3 points, 30 kills are worth 3 points.  Now points are subtracted for deaths so a comparable game would be 3 scores, 10 kills, 10 deaths would = 3.5 points and 0 scores, 40 kills, 10 deaths would = 3.5 points.  Obviously things get more complicated based on what medals you were awarded and so on.  I made assists worth 75% of kills because in my experience most assists are kills that are stolen from you.  I chose the values for men up and down based on the difficulty of plunder being down men and how easy it is being up men.  All of these weights are open to interpretation and criticism and they are changing with the more data I run.

There's my attempt to explain it.  I also give a offensive and defensive rating based on how your actions to try capture treasures for your team or stop the opposing team from capturing treasures.  These have their own equations but they take from the stats mentioned above.  (Offensive rating heavily favors treasures scored, the offensive medals listed, and disregards deaths; Defensive rating heavily favors kills, avg. life, and the defensive medals listed).

So now I'll just run through a sample match for an individual.

20 minute match            -    No time multiplier
5v5                                  -    No men up or men down points

2 treasures captures    =    +2 points
20 kills                           =    +2 points
10 deaths                      =    -0.5 points
20% of team kills          =     +1 point
5 assists                        =    +0.375 points
avg. life of 30 sec         =    +0.5 points
first, assistant (x2), fisticuffs      =   +0.2 points
commando (x2), retaliation (x5), double down, defender, drop it (x2)     =  +1.1 points
tripled                             =   +0.35 points
20 % of team medals     =  +0.5 points

Rating                            =    7.53

Using the global average stats for Plunder, the average rating comes out to about 5.  So 7.5 is a pretty good game.  The highest I've seen so far is 15, which was a really amazing game.

So that's the overall rating.  The offensive and defensive ratings can be explained the same way if people want me to.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions!

- Matt
