Most Anticipated Games of the Rest of 2011

Here's a short list of my most anticipated games coming out for the remainder of the year.  This is only for PS3 games and excludes L.A. Noire which just came out and Max has covered extensively (review to come soon).

5.  Infamous 2

I was a fan of Infamous after downloading the demo, but never purchased the full game.  I probably would have got the game if it had a multiplayer component, but I passed on it.  Luckily, due to the PSN fiasco, I'm going to get it for free as a reward (Max has a column about the rewards coming) and I'm excited.  It's a great open-world game where all of your actions have consequences and change the story.  The second one looks to expand on everything the first one offered and make it better.  I'll probably pick this one up after its been out a while and the price is dropped.  Even though it's single-player only, it does have some great replay value because you can beat the game twice (good and evil) and see the different endings.

4.  Battlefield 3

This game is going to be amazing.  Battlefield pretty much defined online shooters as we know it, but that was on the PC.  They brought it to consoles with the Bad Company franchise (Bad Company 2 is one of our favorites), but this will be the first iteration of their classic Battlefield franchise on consoles and their first release for Battlefield in a while (5 years?).  This is going to go head-to-head with Call of Duty in the fall and both will probably end up with huge sales.  All of us at the Detroit3 prefer Battlefield to Call of Duty.  It's much more realistic (buildings explode) and not full of annoying 13 year olds talking about your mom.   I'm hoping this game will just be the biggest, more epic shooter ever.  That's all we want.

3.  Mass Effect 3

Now, it's kind of stange to have this on my list because I don't own the previous two games.  I played a demo of the second one and enjoyed it thoroughly.  This has a large RPG component, which I usually dislike, but the story and team-oriented gameplay make it amazing.  I was extremely disappointed that the first one is never coming to PS3 and its just a background to the second one, but at least some of Mass Effect is on PS3.  Hopefully, I'll play Mass Effect someday, but there's a lot of other games to play and the story is so long (~40 hours).

2.  Batman: Arkham City

The first game (Batman: Arkham Asylum) was one of my favorite single-player games of the last few years.  The fighting system and detective mode were ingenious.  The puzzles and stealth made it amazing.  Finally, a comicbook hero game done right.  This game looks to be everything and more.  Instead of the smaller Island where the first game was located, players will get to explore the open-world of Arkham City.  With the addition of catwoman and hopefully co-op, I'm sure this will be another contender for Game of the Year and a must-buy.

1.  Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Best. Game. Ever.  That's what I'm already calling Uncharted 3.  Based on the details released about the multiplayer, it looks like Naughty Dog is fixing everything I wanted.

- split-screen with each player logging into their own psn account
- character customization
- larger matches
- being able to join matches in the middle (no totally uneven teams after people leave)
- squads and being able to span on your squad leader
- rewards for medals during the match (spawning with an rpg, picking your spawn point, etc.)
- better boster system (levels of boosters, more options, more types of boosters)

This is going to be amazing.  On top of another great single-player story I know Naughty Dog will deliver, it seems like they are putting forth a huge effort for multiplayer.  Uncharted 2 was already my favorite multiplayer game, but this looks like it will improve everything.  I can't wait.  I'll probably pre-order it soon.  Why does it have to be 5.5 long months???
